Figure showing the study area on Highway 400 at Corth Canal, located within the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury in the County of Simcoe The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is undertaking a Detail Design and Class Environmental Assessment for the replacement of the Highway 400 North Canal Overpass structure located in the Holland Marsh. The Holland Marsh is located in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury in the County of Simcoe.

The preliminary design was documented in the Highway 400 Planning Study from the South Canal Bridge Northerly to 1 km South of Highway 89 Transportation Environmental Study Report (2003) that received environmental clearance in the Summer of 2005.

Since 2005, there have been changes in the study area, including the realignment of the North Canal and updated information about the condition of the bridges. These changes led to the initiation of this study. A Public Information Centre for this study was held on March 30, 2016 to display and seek input on the proposed improvements.

As part of this study, a Design and Construction Report (DCR) has been prepared to summarize the project, consultation activities, environmental investigations, and the recommended plan. The DCR is available for a 30-day public comment period from December 19, 2024 to January 21, 2025 at the following link: Design and Construction Report (GWP 2005-11-00) (45.9 MB). Upon completion of the DCR comment period, the project will be considered to have met the requirements of the Class EA and will proceed to construction. Construction is anticipated to commence in Spring 2025, subject to funding and approvals. Interested persons may provide written comments to the project team by January 21, 2025. All comments and concerns should be sent directly to the project team.

This website will be maintained for the duration of the study and updated as new information becomes available.
